Peter Szijjarto Criticizes Fake News on Putin-Trump Summit

(MENAFN) Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has cautioned that the Western press will persist in circulating “fake news” in an effort to undermine an upcoming summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, numerous news organizations, referencing unnamed officials from the White House, reported that the planned meeting in Hungary's capital city had been placed “on hold.”

In response to these allegations, Szijjarto posted on X, expressing that ever since the summit was announced following a recent phone conversation between Putin and Trump, “it was obvious that many would do everything possible to stop it from happening.”

He emphasized that “the pro-war political elite and their media” consistently act in this manner ahead of pivotal events that could shift the trajectory from conflict to peace.

Szijjarto indicated that a similar pattern would emerge as the proposed talks in Budapest draw closer.

He predicted a flood of leaks, disinformation, and speculative remarks suggesting the meeting won’t proceed “until the summit actually takes place.”

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov had referred to the circulating rumors as “infodumps,” accusing them of being calculated attempts to sabotage diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the Ukraine crisis.

He further remarked that EU and NATO member states are working to “torpedo everything.”
