Allen County, Indiana – The Allen County Board of Commissioners joined other organizations and agencies today to celebrate the first-ever “Give Like Dolly Day,” a global day dedicated to supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Programs. During Legislative Session, the Commissioners read a proclamation, declaring 9/25/2026 as “Give Like Dolly Day” in Allen County and stressed the importance of young children having access to books, which results in lifelong benefits.
Parton established the nonprofit in 1995 in honor of her father, whom she knew to be extremely intelligent, but who never learned to read. Since then, over 300 million books have been given to children worldwide. The Imagination Library provides free, high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth to age five.
This morning, the Commissioners were joined by Susan Baier, Allen County Public Library Executive Director, and Aja Michael-Keller, the library’s Director of Communications, who accepted the Proclamation. They brought a cut out of the late country music legend to stand with them during the reading.
The local program partner, The Allen County Public Library Foundation has served nearly 12,000 children since the beginning of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Allen County in 2024. Baier shared that Allen County’s was the fastest growing program in the country when it launched and currently serves over 9,300 children.
